Original Abstract

Brown outlines some of the major economic questions relating to the privatisation of prisons within the context of the Queensland experience, especially the Borallon prison. In examining the cost efficiency, accountability, staffing and programs, Brown finds that a cost comparison between public and private institutions is not conclusive, given that no two institutions are totally comparable.
